I've been getting lots of comments from people about how they just don't have the time to start their day healthy. I totally connect with the "THERE'S NOT ENOUGH TIME!" thought - and changing up your morning routine just takes a little bit of practice before you get into a new groove. As someone who used to be a total night person, I've changed my circadian rhythm around so that I'm now actually more of a morning person than a night person. If you told me this about myself 10 years ago, I would've laughed in your face. Cultivating different habits just takes a bit of time and practice. It doesn't need to be a radical change coz you're pretty much setting yourself up for failure if you go from zero to hero and expect to be able to maintain a 180-degree shift in your routine for the long term. Go in baby steps and build up whatever change you want to make slowly. That's how new and different habits come into practice.

Now, my morning "stress" is more about 'how much more can I do in the morning before work without losing even more sleep?" I used to start my day with about a 1.5-2 hour physical yoga practice. Then I added a 45-minute pranayama practice into it before the yoga. Then I added a green-smoothie after the yoga practice, which took about an average of half-hour to prep and clean. I mean - who REALLY has 4 hours before work to do all of that without waking up at mega-stupid o'clock? ...NOT ME!

So I've been mixing it up a bit, trying to see how much I can squeeze into at least 2 hours before work. The pranayama and yoga practices get lengthened or shortened, depending on what I feel like that day, and I found a simple thing that works to help speed things up in the morning. It's dead easy and almost brainless.

TIME-SAVING TIP #1:

Prep your morning smoothie the night before.

It's almost a moment of "DUH!" when you think of how easy this is. If you prepped and chopped everything the night before, put them in a bowl in the fridge so that all you have to do is literally chuck your bowl of veggies into the blender/ juicer in the morning, this saves 20 minutes right off the bat.

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

And you're more likely to keep to your morning smoothie routine too, if it's less things for you to do in the morning (speaking from experience).

So here's a classic green smoothie recipe you can try prepping tonight for tomorrow morning's breakfast.

CLASSIC GREEN SMOOTHIE

Ingredients:

  • Handful of Spinach
  • Coriander (aka Cilantro)
  • 1/3 of a whole Cucumber
  • 1 knob of Ginger
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon
  • 1 Tbsp Raw Cacao Nibs
  • 1 Tbsp Hemp Seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
  • Water or your choice of dairy/ non-dairy milk to get to your desired smoothie consistency

Directions:

  1. Chuck everything except chia in blender.
  2. Blend it.
  3. Sprinkle chia seeds on top, then drink.

You're welcome! :)
